Cosmetic dentistry can have several different meanings. To some it may be as simple as whitening their teeth or just changing their silver fillings to white, tooth-colored ones. Others may be completely unhappy with their smile and wish to make dramatic changes. With the latest techniques in cosmetic dentistry virtually anyone’s smile can be made to dazzle.
We utilize several methods to bleach or whiten teeth. The most popular and convenient method is with the Zoom whitening technique. This procedure is done in our office in about an hour. Our trained clinicians first place a protective barrier on the cheeks and gums. The Zoom whitening gel is then applied to the teeth. This gel is used with the Zoom light which together gently penetrates the surface of the teeth to break up stains and discolorations. During this time you can relax, watch a dvd or listen to music. The gel is applied for three 15 minute sessions for a total of 45 minutes to 1 hour. You then leave with your whiter, brighter smile.
Veneers are a technique we use to take an ordinary or unattractive smile and make it gorgeous. This means that people with stained, crooked, chipped, misshapen or gapped teeth can have the straight, white, beautiful smile they’ve always wanted.
A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or plastic that is bonded to a tooth to improve its color and shape. A veneer generally covers only the front and top of the tooth. It requires the removal of much less tooth structure than a crown or cap.
It usually takes two appointments to fabricate a veneer. During the first appointment the tooth will be properly shaped to receive the veneer. Impressions are then taken to make precise models of the teeth. These models are used to artistically craft the veneers to exactly fit the prepared teeth. On the second appointment the veneers are inspected and approved in the mouth for color and desired shape. They are then bonded into place using a resin adhesive and a harmless ultraviolet light. Once bonded to place, veneers virtually become part of the teeth. The bond is extremely strong.
The result is beautiful and natural looking teeth.
No longer do you have to endure the ugly silver fillings that were so routinely placed in the past. Today we have several ways to restore the natural beauty of teeth that have been either decayed or previously restored with amalgam (silver) fillings.
If the filling is small we can very economically restore it with bonded resin. After removing the defective tooth structure or filling, an acid conditioner is placed on the tooth to etch the surface. A resin bonding agent is applied to adhere to this etched surface. A tooth-colored material is then placed and cured with an ultraviolet light. This leaves a strong, beautiful looking tooth. The filling is virtually undetectable from the remaining natural tooth.
ClearCorrect Invisible Braces
Looking for an alternative to metal braces? ClearCorrect is the clear and simple choice. No wires. No brackets. Just clear, convenient comfort—every reason to smile. With ClearCorrect, we can straighten your teeth using a series of clear, custom, removable aligners. Each aligner moves your teeth just a little bit at a time until you eventually get straight teeth.
For those who would like both the natural beauty of tooth colored fillings and wish to have their dental work last as long as possible; porcelain or resin inlays may be the material of choice. Inlays are precisely crafted in a dental laboratory and then bonded into the prepared cavity of the tooth. Because they are made in laboratory conditions, they are much stronger than resin fillings that are made directly in the mouth. Onlays are similar to inlays. The difference is that onlays can be used to strengthen teeth that have either fractured or are weakened by large fillings. They not only fill the internal areas that would be filled by the inlay, they also cover the top of the tooth in areas that are weakened.
