Nan’s Story

As October rolls around, we begin to see pink ribbons all around us – a reminder that we need to remain vigilant in the fight against breast cancer. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. More than 2500 women in Inland Southern California will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the next year. We hope you will join us in the fight against this disease and in recognizing the courage and determination of those whose lives have been impacted by it.
Nan (the first person you see when you step into our office) has her own story to share about her battle with this disease:
Join me in celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. As many of you know I am a breast cancer survivor of 19 years. Yippee! The day after my 35th birthday I was diagnosed. After a mastectomy, chemo, and radiation I thought I was done with it. And then, 6 years later, I did it all over again.
The challenges were many but the rewards have been endless. I agonized over maybe not seeing my kids graduate high school. My husband Rick and I not only saw high school graduations, we also attended a college graduation, 2 weddings and have been blessed with 3 grandkids. We are also looking forward to attending our youngest sons wedding this October.
Another reward, 15 years after that 1st diagnosis I underwent breast reconstruction. (See it’s never too late.) What a wonderful journey that was. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to give back, by sitting on the Image Reborn panel for breast reconstruction.
So please, women and you men, do a self breast exam every month. It may save your life like it saved mine.
In great health,
Nan Jones
