After your dentist finds a cavity at your dental appointment, you will probably undergo a filling treatment to prevent any further damage to your teeth as well as to fix up the space in which that cavity already damaged your teeth. Yourdental filling treatment is done under a local anesthetic, and once that anesthesia wears off, your teeth will be incredibly sensitive for the time being. Here are some food tips that Dr. Middleton approves for you to follow after your filling.
- Avoid hot and cold foods. I know what you’re thinking, well if you can’t eat it hot and you can’t eat it cold, then what exactly are you eating? Well, the days after your procedure, your teeth will be incredibly sensitive to extreme temperatures. It will be easier, less painful, and more comfortable for you to eat your food at a “middle of the way” temperature.
- AVOID gum and sticky foods. This tip applies for any form of dental procedure. It is safer for your teeth to just avoid sticky foods altogether. These foods include sticky candies such as caramel or taffy. After your filling, the material used to fill in the tooth will still be somewhat malleable. In that case, you want to avoid chewing excessively for the sole purpose of making sure your filling stays right.
- Try warm (NOT HOT) soft foods the first couple of days after your procedure. Pureed vegetable soup and fruit smoothies make up for a great after procedure meal. As time passes by, you’ll be able to eat your normal foods again!
